Tahiti

It may not be big on the backpacker circuit but those who do experience it fall in love. Most backpackers use it as a stopover point but after a few days here they want to stay longer. The capital. Pape'ete, makes a colourful first impression with great outdoor cafes, pumping nightlife and fantastic markets. Those who have a bit longer can head down to Teahupo which is famous for its black beaches and incredible surf breaks. If you plan to explore the outer islands, make sure you pre-plan as it can be very expensive once you arrive in Tahiti.

New Caledonia

This paradise offers a blend of French history and South Pacific  culture. Watch the chic and casual at the beautiful cafes and restaurants of Noumea, New Caledonia's fashion capital. There are beautiful mountains, stunning waterfalls and amazing lagoons here, were you can explore a wonderful marine world. If you are looking for a bit of quiet time for two, why not head down to the Ile des Pins where you can spend a romantic evening on a sandy beach while watching the stars.
